Picture it, Bankview, 2014.
In 2014, two Bankview neighbours, Kate Schutz and Mike Sander applied for an I Love My Neighbourhood Grant, to address the need for signage in the community garden that would also provide a place to post notices and connect the community through art. Kate Schutz is a local painter (kateschutz.com) and she painted a bright and colourful sign featuring all the things that grow in Bankview’s garden from sunflowers to carrots. Even the garden’s pink flamingo mascot is there! To engage the community, Bankview residents were invited to paint plot markers alongside Kate, during the fall harvest potluck.
Fast Forward, Bankview, 2015.
On May 16, 2015, the community garden sign will be affixed to a new postings board in the garden. We hope you can join us. The sign-raising starts at 11:00 am. A light lunch will be provided. Thanks to Kate, Mike, our many volunteers and the I Love My Neighbourhood grant for bringing this idea to life!
Built by Bankview volunteers, this intuitive gathering place will help neighbours learn and share notices about the garden and the greater community. We will also be securing the numbered markers below to the Bankview Community Garden plots in preparation for the 2015-growing season. So there are ways for all to participate!
